AWS Elemental Will Highlight Videon EdgeCaster 4K in Low-Latency Streaming Demo at IBC2019

Our award-winning EdgeCaster 4K edge compute encoder will be central to an ultra-low latency demonstration by AWS Elemental at IBC2019 booth 5.C80. The demo will feature the Videon EdgeCaster interfacing directly with AWS Elemental MediaStore and Amazon Cloudfront to achieve latency of less than 3 seconds of latency, at scale, over public internet connections using HLS and DASH streaming that’s compatible with standard player options.

EdgeCaster will be the industry’s first HTTP CMAF streaming encoder to include multiple-bit-rate outputs in support of ultra-low-latency streaming solutions for broadcast, pro AV, and prosumer applications at an industry-leading price point.  Thanks to our partnership with AWS Elemental, EdgeCaster users can easily launch and scale-up live, interactive services and other delay-sensitive applications including esports, sports betting, and live auctions. EdgeCaster addresses the industry-wide problem associated with social, live video interaction and reconnects life’s moments – for example, the technology partnership specifically addresses the issue of spoilers by bringing the latency of live streaming in line with that of broadcast.

EdgeCaster makes live streaming live again by eliminating time-intensive computational processes — transcoding, format repackaging from RTMP to HLS/DASH, and creation of multiple bit rates — in the cloud and instead handling these tasks more efficiently at the network edge. The key to the EdgeCaster’s management of time-laden cloud functions is the intellectual property we developed using Qualcomm® technology. With the processing power of the SnapDragon™chip, the EdgeCaster streams at resolutions up to 4K at 30 FPS using either H.264 or H.265/HEVC compression.
