NexPlayer and Videon Leverage AWS to Build an End-to-End Workflow

NexPlayer and Videon Leverage Amazon Web Services to Build an End-to-End Workflow Supporting Low Latency and Synchronized Video Arrival Time

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — April 3, 2019 — NexPlayer and Videon today announced support for the synchronization of OTT video arrival times for all end users, featuring interoperability between NexPlayer’s Android and iOS player SDKs, AWS Elemental MediaStore and Amazon CloudFront, and Videon’s edge compute encoders.

Media organizations wanting to launch interactive services in order to increase audience engagement and grow their subscriber base face two major hurdles: high latency and unsynchronized video.

NexPlayer is a media player for Android, iOS, smart TVs, set-top boxes, and mobile and desktop browsers, providing high-quality playback and advanced feature sets. To support low latency and synchronization with both HLS and DASH, NexPlayer has dedicated APIs to ensure immediate playback upon arrival of the video segments and to manage buffer size. Other advanced features supported by NexPlayer include offline playback, Widevine DRM on all Android and iOS devices, time-shifting, 360-degree video, and dynamic thumbnails.

Videon’s edge compute encoder platform moves compute and time-intensive cloud processes such as transcoding, transrating, and format packaging to the edge and reduces latency by outputting HLS and DASH directly from the encoder. Extending these features to include integration with NexPlayer adds another level of capability thanks to NexPlayer’s device synchronization technology.

AWS Media Services make it fast and easy to transport, prepare, process, and deliver broadcast and over-the-top video from Amazon Web Services (AWS). These pay-as-you-go services offer the video infrastructure users need to deliver great viewing experiences on multiple screens.

Services supported by this workflow include AWS Elemental MediaStore and Amazon CloudFront. AWS Elemental MediaStore is an AWS storage service optimized for media. It gives users the performance, consistency, and low latency required to deliver live and on-demand video content. AWS Elemental MediaStore acts as the origin store in the user’s video workflow. Amazon CloudFront is a fast content delivery network (CDN) service that securely delivers data, videos, applications, and APIs to customers globally with low latency, high transfer speeds, all within a developer-friendly environment.

“It’s simply a matter of letting each piece of the workflow do what it does best,” says Todd Erdley, CEO of Videon. “We take care of the computationally intense processes with our hardware and let the cloud handle storage and distribution. Enabling this with AWS Elemental and NexPlayer ensures a great experience for customers.”

“As an increasing number of live events are viewed via OTT platforms, it has become essential for video service providers to implement low latency and video synchronization to match broadcast quality,” says Carlos Lucas, general manager of NexPlayer. “These features can also be used to launch innovative services built around interactivity, like live trivia, polls, and betting.”

Videon Announces Interoperability of Greylock 1080p H.264 Encoder/Decoder with AWS Elemental MediaLive

STATE COLLEGE, Pa.Aug. 29, 2018 — Videon, a leader in live streaming video encoding technology and cutting-edge 4K HEVC/H.264 solutions, is integrating its solutions with offerings from Amazon Web Services (AWS) to ensure interoperability between its Greylock and Sonora products (1080p, H.264 encoder/decoder) and AWS Elemental MediaLive video processing.

Together, the two solutions support broadcast-grade live video processing for the professional AV and IT markets as the need for live streaming of events rapidly accelerates.

“By bringing together the power of AWS Elemental MediaLive and Amazon CloudFront, the AV/IT market now has access to a product that is simple to set up, easy to use, and enables confident delivery of live streamed events. Simply put, it is an opportunity for end users to experience live streaming with quality and confidence that is not typically possible,” said Todd Erdley, CEO of Videon Central.

Interoperability with AWS Elemental MediaLive is enabled through a RTMP output from Videon’s encoder products. AWS Elemental MediaLive creates multiple video streams for delivery to other AWS Elemental Media Services including AWS Elemental MediaStore and AWS Elemental MediaPackage and then is distributed to end users via Amazon CloudFront.

Videon will demonstrate its entire line of live streaming encoding solutions, including Shavano, a 4K HEVC/H.264 encoder, during IBC 2018 from Sept. 14 -18 in Amsterdam at the RAI. Videon’s team will be available for product demonstrations and meetings in booth 9.LP9.
