Videon CEO, Todd Erdley to Be a Panelist at Council of State Governments Regional Meeting
State College, PA – Videon CEO and President Todd Erdley has accepted an invitation to be a plenary panelist at the Council of State Governments – Eastern Regional Conference’s (CSG/ERC) 54th Annual Meeting and Regional Policy Forum on August 3-6, 2014.
The mission of the CSG/ERC is to “facilitate the exchange of ideas and information among state and provincial policy makers, business leaders and the academic community in [its] 18 member jurisdictions,” including eleven U.S. states and five Canadian provinces as well as Caribbean U.S. territories.
The CSG/ERC’s annual meeting is the largest regional gathering of state officials, and it focuses on addressing ten key policy areas: agriculture, criminal justice, economic development, education, energy and environment, fiscal affairs, healthcare, transportation and US-Canada relations.
The theme of this year’s CSG/ERC annual meeting is “Strengthening States through Innovation and Entrepreneurship.” Todd’s panel will include Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley; University System of Maryland Chancellor & CEO, William E. Kirwan; StartUpBox Co-Founder & CEO, Majora Carter; and Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation Vice President of Research and Policy, Dane Strangler. Kojo Nnamdi, renowned National Public Radio show host, will moderate.
On the panel, Todd will serve as the voice of the business community. As founder and leader of Videon, Todd has first-hand knowledge about starting and growing a successful company. Todd also understands that companies like Videon are catalysts to regional economic growth, and he believes that support for businesses from local government is crucial to enable entrepreneurship and economic development.
To that point, another component of Todd’s experience that he will bring to the panel is his devotion to growing Central Pennsylvania’s economy through promoting entrepreneurship. Recently, Todd identified an economic imbalance in this region that creates a strong need for private industry growth. Based on this need, Todd initiated a movement named $3B33 with a goal of achieving $3 billion in annual private economic output by the year 2033. The Chamber of Business and Industry of Centre County (CBICC) has adopted the initiative, and $3B33 is now a shared goal for our community.
Todd also recognizes the importance of creating an environment supportive of entrepreneurship; the necessary ecosystem, resources and infrastructure must be in place. Todd formed the Centre Region Entrepreneur Network in 2009 as a resource to help local entrepreneurs network and share best practices. CREN now includes over 75 companies representing upwards of 1,000 people.
“It is an honor to be part of the Council of State Governments - Eastern Regional Conference’s 54th Annual Meeting,” says Todd. “I look forward to participating on the plenary panel with my esteemed colleagues. This is an exciting opportunity to provide insight into how economic development can be a grassroots effort starting with entrepreneurs in one’s own community. It is my hope that sharing my insights through this forum will spur on other communities to identify key entrepreneurs and encourage them to make a systemic economic difference in their own local economies.”
