Digital Theater for Avica
Avica brought us a unique and memorable challenge. Just as movie theaters were moving from film projection to digital projection, Avica was tasked with developing the digital interface that would be used with the release of Star Wars Episode I.
Knowing of our expertise in video encoding and decoding, Avica came to Videon. We stepped in to create two cards: a main board for the hard drive holding the film and an HD-SDI card to act as an interface between the hard drive and the projectors.
Episode I was remarkably successful, grossing over 900 million during its initial theater run. Though the vast majority of viewers didn’t know it, their digital theater experiences all rested on a foundation of Videon technology.
